"Brookwood Estate Sales Brochure - 1929"

These were the photos used to put the Brookwood Estate on the Market. 

Donated to us by Oakleigh Thorne who grew up here as a small boy.

The Thornes sold the Estate to the Orphan Asylum of Brooklyn in 1942

Never seen before: Interiors Aerials and Landscaping views of some of the Great Houses of East Islip.

Most of these scenes are the only known representations on record of "The Way It Was."

All proceeds will help the East Islip Historical Society continue its work in

2013 EAST ISLIP HISTORICAL SOCIETY CALENDAR

The 2013 Calendar theme is ‘Service Stations’

There was a time when over 40 Service Stations dotted Main Street, Carleton Avenue, Connetquot Avenue and Sunrise Highway. The pictures in this calendar span almost 50 years of service stations within our community -- the 1930s through the  late 1970s.

The cover of this calendar is a 1941 picture of Islip Terrace’s Guelfi’s. Other pictures in this calendar include stations operated by Alfieri, Neri, Horal, Rumplik, Kessler and many more. Many of these scenes are the only known representations on record of “The Way It Was.”

Besides all the East Islip Schools, included in this Calendar is the Hewlett School and St. Mary's School, both important learning institutions for decades in East Islip
